Position Profile:  Head Lacrosse Coach

About the Position:  Saint Ignatius High School, a highly successful Jesuit college preparatory school for boys in Cleveland, Ohio, is seeking a Head Lacrosse Coach for the 2016-2017 school year. The Head Lacrosse Coach candidate must possess demonstrated knowledge and proven techniques necessary to develop and maintain an efficient, competitive lacrosse program for highly competitive high school athletes and teams. The ideal candidate will be a well rounded and engaging person who will facilitate growth and collaboration both on and off the field.

As a Catholic School in the Jesuit tradition, Saint Ignatius has been educating “Men for Others” for 125 years. The school is known locally, as well as nationally, as a leader in educational excellence.  At graduation, students will be open to growth, intellectually competent, religious, loving, and committed to peace and justice. 

Primary Areas of Responsibility:

  • Organize and supervise the school lacrosse program for grades 9-12
  • Assist the Athletic Director in scheduling activities, development of the lacrosse budget, travel arrangements, and obtaining college scholarship assistance for qualified athletes
  • Perform pre-season and post-season activities
  • Inventory and maintain all lacrosse equipment and compile related statistics
  • Train and evaluate assistant coaches and members of the team.
  • Coordinate overall practice schedule for the lacrosse program
  • Maintain professional growth through attendance of coaching clinics, conferences and post-graduate study

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Secondary teaching certificate preferred
  • At least 5 years of experience coaching or participating in a college or high-school lacrosse program.

The successful candidate will also demonstrate the following:

  • Excellent organization and communication skills
  • Creative and innovative approach to athlete and program development
  • Understanding of team dynamics and team chemistry
  • Knowledge of sports psychology including goal setting, visualization, and positive mental attitude
  • Understanding of the Saint Ignatius mission and formation of the whole person within athletics and wellness
  • Understanding of  how athletics and wellness develop the whole person in harmony with other aspects of the educational process
  • Ability to understand the balance of academics, sports and service and makes efficient use of student athlete time
